Sankofa, a Public Radio Station, and a family nonprofit Ghanaian Talk Show, based in New York City presented a donation check and sample T-shirts to the Ministry of Health (MOH) at a ceremony in Accra.
The presentation is from the proceeds of a sponsored walk organized by Sankofa in August, last year at the Central Park in New York to raise funds to support the HIV/AIDS Control Programme in Ghana.
Mr. Fred Asante Tawiah, the Sankofa PR representative who presented the items, said the aim of the show is to expose Ghanaians in the US to Ghanaian issues and mainly to raise funds to support worthy causes in Ghana. He said the presentation is the first in the series to come, adding that Sankofa Public Radio Show has plans to help needy children and provide computers to some schools in the Ashanti and Eastern regions.
Dr. Kweku Yeboah, manager of the National AIDS Control Programme, who received the items, said it is important that more funds are generated to support the AIDS initiatives in Ghana. Dr. Yeboah commended Sankofa PR for taking an exemplary step in raising funds for Ghanaian projects, since it is not located in the country. He also said the money will be put to good use to help control HIV/AIDS in the country and promised to give details on their plans and progress.
